    Mobility

Had a very interesting conversation with my brother Stephen concerning Mobility. Funny thing mobility means different things to different people especially people like my brother who are not techie or gadget freaks and simply want technology to help  them work more efficently.

Some of us are happy if we have access to our email using something like Outlook Web Access either from our own laptop  or any internet connected pc. http://www.microsoft.com/exchange/evaluation/features/OWA_Features.mspx, or maybe a Windows Mobile device

However increasingly we all seem to require more, so for example my brother Stephen works in two different offices and in his home office and needs easy connectivity in all three locations, has opted for an ultralight Dell Laptop D410 which comes with an media base  "expansion unit" to the rest of us and two additional media bases for his other work locations.

I hasten to add he figured this all out without any help from me and to be honest he wasn't too impressed with my Samsung Q1 Ultra Mobile PC  http://sbslive.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!39B4BD58CF0C2A5C!348.entry

I think what's elegant about Stephen's solution is no matter what location he works at he is using the same computer, no pen drives or wondering whether the information or program is on his laptop, or Ultra Mobile Pc or Desktop or whatever sometimes I think us techie's need to try and think more like our customers even for putting in place our own personal solutions.

Maybe I don't need to carry my Alienware 7.5Kg laptop and my ultramobile PC + 2 mobile phones, maybe I'm only techie who sometimes spends more time putting together the most whiz bang solution for myself and sometimes losing sight of simply trying to come up with a more efficent way to do things
